I am always fascinated by the dynamic connectedness our body demonstrates.  Reflexologists say the arch of the foot and the ‘great toe’ share a direct relationship with the kyphotic and lordotic curvature of the spine leading to the head.  While we may not all be reflexologists or massage therapists, we all have the healing and connecting power of touch and ‘roadmaps’ like this may help us be more intentional when we approach our next foot massage.
Consider your foot to be somewhat of a universal remote control for your body, with a button to stimulate all of our internal processes.  Our parasympathetic nervous system responsible for recovery from ‘fight or flight’ responses in our body, helps us ‘rest and digest’, a very active internal state that occurs when we ourselves feel our most passive.  We often witness this with a good foot massage, leaving the individual feeling sedated and peaceful while the business of their body is at work, entertaining us with sounds of digestion, deep breathing and often snoring! :)
